THE OLD SCHOOL PRESS
AT WORK

Our 'Royal' Albion hand-press

Working with a hand-press is a bit like climbing Everest without oxygen: you wonder if it's really necessary to go to such lengths. Although the basic principles are the same as, say, the Western proof press, everything is different - hand-inking with a pin roller, make-ready on the tympan, and taking the impression. But it's strangely delighting.

You can see our treadle platen beyond the Albion.
